Q: How many days do I have to volunteer and for how many hours?
A: We ask that each volunteer work at least two (2) shifts over the course of the event.  Each shift is approximately four or five hours.

Q: What does the volunteer fee cover?
A: The fee covers the uniform (one shirt, one hat) preferred parking, Volunteer Badge (good for all 3 days with paddock access), Guest Pass (1 ticket for each day with Paddock Access) and meals during shifts.

Q: How do I know my assignment?
A: We will send you a confirmation letter with your committee assignment and chairman's contact information within two months of us receiving your application.

Q: If I am no longer able to volunteer, can I receive a refund?
A: Yes, you will be issued a refund if you cancel before March 1, 2012. Please contact Katherine Thigpen at (205) 977-9338 to request a refund.

Q: Can I watch the race when I am not working?
A: Yes, your credential is valid for all three days and we encourage you to do so. On days that you are working as a volunteer, before or after your shift, you are welcome to watch the race as a spectator. On days that you are not working as a volunteer, please do not wear your uniform.

Q: Can I be scheduled (shift assignments) at the same time as my spouse, friend, etc.?
A: We will make every effort to accommodate your scheduling requests. Make sure to list your request on the Availability Information Tab on your Volunteer Application.

Q: How do I know my schedule? And when will I receive my schedule?
A: You will submit your Availability Information on your application when you register.  The form asks you to provide us your preferred days and times and will be used to create the master schedule for your committee. We hope to have schedules out to all volunteers by March 1, 2012.

Q: When will the uniforms be distributed?
A: Uniforms will be distributed at your Orientation Session in March of 2012.

Q: What do I do if my uniform does not fit?
A: You will be able to exchange your uniform at your Orientation Session in March or during the three day event.

Q: How will I know what to do when I show up for my shift?
A: We will host an Orientation Session for each volunteer committee in March 2012.  During the sessions, volunteers will learn general race information, committee specific information and pick up their uniform package.
